The battle for equal pay started 125 years ago and it’s not over yet, Newsroom reveals. A new campaign, Mind The Gap – backed by 35 organisations including unions, women’s groups, and BusinessNZ – hopes to address some of the issues. The battle for equal pay has hit false starts and celebrated milestones over the decades but still women are paid on average 9% less than men when it comes to the median hourly rate. Marc England, co-chair of Champions for Change, says, “We need more companies to disclose their gap… the more companies report it, the more we get a deeper understanding of the problems that are causing it.”
